As our roadmap shows, the Sabayon Linux 5 release date is coming fast. Unfortunately we are looking at a late August or first part of September for a final release. This is just a heads up for yas. We will keep things posted here as we progress. We hope to have our first beta disk for the testing team shortly. Remember, you will be able to roll your 4.1 or 4.2 to 5.0 by hoping to branch 5. Right now, branch 5 should only be done if you are exprienced. I have been rolling my original Sabayon Linux LiteMCE version to current branch 5. It works great, but there was bumps to iron out along the way. It was expected as one needs to do a few things manually. Hopefully when branch 5 has the green light, everyone will have a smooth ride over. I’m not sure what the package count is currently to go from 4 to 5. I saw the other day a person report nearly 900 packages in his update. It will depend and vary for everyone as some don’t have as much installed and some may have more installed.
Joost has been busy with getting branch 5 ready and Fabio has been busy hammering it into shape. Our testers have been busy testing branch 5 and reporting bugs, they are doing a great job. Ian has been working out the artwork for Sabayon Linux 5. I haven’t even seen it myself yet, but I am sure it will be fantastic.
Fabio has also implemented i18n support on installer, as well as encryption. This should please many. Speaking of this, we need translators and the person to get a hold of is DHalens. Give him a hollar at daniel.halens at sabayonlinux dot org if you have questions.
All I have to report at this moment. Oh, and incase you missed it, KDE has released the final version of 4.3.0 on August 4th. I believe Joost has it in branch 5 already. I’ve been kinda on vacation mode and working with my photography stuffs.
Till next time

I really don’t care when it is release, as long as it is release before year end. I think and leave it to you guys to know when its best to do so. You guys are outstanding and your community is great. sabayon is the best linux and os Ive ever tested out. It is just great.
Maybe you should get some digital (blender, gimp, photoshop) artist to hook you up with some custom sabayon wallpapers for next release. I think the next theme should say “art”
Wolfden, you made me tried branch 5
.
Nice art.
PLEASE, for the love of $DEITY, DO NOT DELETE ROSEGARDEN!!! I know you need to kick out kdelibs-3.5, but I really need Rosegarden. And, while you are at it, bump Scribus to 1.3.5 (I am with it through a Gentoo overlay
)
i’m runnin sabayon 4.1 kde & ready to install the 4.2 version but i see 5.0 coming out soon so,.. i’m just ready for the new big thing!! keep up the great work! sabayon is my os!
I’m using the branch 5 for a while, in my 4.1 updated to branch 5, and i have also an old 4.0r1, also updated to branch 4.
thanks…
Sabayon 5 is great work…. Useful, easy, beautiful and stable.
is great also for advanced users, since is more easy customized and maintanable that the previous versions..
i’d stick to 4.2 til v5 is officially released. i have no time (and experience) to troubleshoot linux stuff
Make it or brake it!
I will update my 4.2 to 5, I don’t consider myself an experienced user, but I have the guts to make radical changes on my system.
keep up !
I’ve been using Linux for a while now, but I’m just a beginner to the Sabayon/Gentoo way of doing things. What do you mean when you said to “hop” onto the 5 branch? I’m guessing you change part of a repository line to version 5 and upgrading. I just want to be able to upgrade when it’s finally released.
man equo

Hi from cold Russia!
Sabayon is very user and Laptop friendly distributive. I already use 4.2 Kde based version.
I tried few times to update my system from WAN but you guys doing you’re new builds too fast. That’s why easier way is to install next build from DVD.
I’d like to ask you to make possible to do system update with anaconda installer witch is running from DVD, cause some times it is no possible to do update with equo from WAN.
Internet connection some times is not so. If sys update from DVD is already available in you’re distributive then I’d like to see manual in WiKi for it.
P.S.: And please include in KDE or GNOME versions LXDM for slow PC’s with keyboard layout switching included!
Hello. Are u seperating the Gnome and KDE versions..Please dont do that. It was the best thing sabayon ever had. Many people have free space these days. 3-4 of my friends left sabayon for that. They burned the 4.2kde i guess, tried to install gnome, for which instructions were given by sabayonlinux forum users. And the system broke. I request u,please please dont split up the environment.
4.0 was last disk for both KDE and Gnome. All releases are now mini-dvds and a core-cd as the feedback was great and it allows us to produce a better release. Learning the package manager is a must and people successfully install several desktop environments and window managers.
If you have problems please report on the forum complete information so someone can assist you.
