5.1 Rolling Along

Well, it’s been a while since 5.1 packages entered into mainline and I am pleased to see that for the most part, it went pretty smooth. I think I heard more complaints about the amount of packages vs. updating issues. I can live with that. Portage is constantly changing, very active and can be a challenge to keep up to at times. This keeps entropy maintainers busy bringing you the latest and greatest stuff.

Last week Fabio released the 5.1 beta 1 isos for the testing team and it’s looking pretty good, which it should be since it’s mostly just updated packages. If you are doing your equo update && equo world regularly than you already have 5.1. 5.1 will just basically save a person from having to do so many updates. I believe the latest gnome will be included in the 5.1 as the beta 1 did not have it. Still hammering out all the details for a beta 2.

Fabio is also going to put together a Gamers DVD. You can find more information and ask questions on the forum. The details are sketchy yet and we will of course post more information at a later time. I’m still a die hard enemy territory fan, it’s about the only game I jump into and play.

I want to bring up a post on the developers mailing list that Fabio brought up on Molecule 0.3. I see from time to time people asking about remastering an iso. This is the tool to do it and feel free to check into it. Hopefully we will get some more documentation out on that soon.

Core-cd for 5.* is coming. I know several are wondering about it. Mitch is definitely working on it tho. Hopefully testing team will get a taste of it soon.
